Ireland’s National Workplace Wellbeing Day has grown into the country’s largest celebration of employee wellbeing. Established by Ibec, the event highlights the importance of creating healthy, supportive, and connected workplaces across all sectors. Now in its twelfth year, it continues to evolve in response to the changing world of work, emphasising belonging, balance, and meaningful engagement.

What the Day Represents

At its core, the day is about supporting employee wellbeing in a holistic way, from physical activity and mental health to social connection and work–life balance. Organisations are encouraged to take simple, meaningful actions that help employees feel valued and supported.

These actions can range from structured wellbeing sessions to small but impactful changes in the working day.

When It Takes Place

In 2026, National Workplace Wellbeing Day is celebrated on Wednesday, 29 April, marking its twelfth year. The theme for 2026, “Belonging”, -focuses on helping employees feel seen, valued, and connected, especially in diverse, intergenerational, and hybrid workplaces.

Why It Matters

The initiative encourages employers to:

  • Promote physical activity, such as group walks or fitness sessions
  • Support mental health, through workshops, mindfulness, or open conversations
  • Encourage social connection, helping teams build trust and community
  • Reinforce work–life balance, by offering time back or reducing meeting overload
  • Recognise employee contributions, strengthening morale and engagement

These efforts help organisations build a culture of wellbeing, not just a one‑day event.

How Organisations Celebrate

Companies across Ireland participate in a wide variety of activities, including:

  • Walk & Talk events, such as the free 5K in Dublin’s Phoenix Park during Wellbeing Week
  • No‑meeting or deep‑focus days, giving employees uninterrupted time
  • Shortened meetings (25 or 50 minutes) to reduce fatigue
  • Early‑finish Fridays or protected lunch breaks
  • Wellbeing workshops, from meditation to nutrition
  • Team‑building activities that foster connection

These initiatives are designed to be time‑efficient and easy to integrate into the working day.

A National Movement for Better Workplaces

National Workplace Wellbeing Day has become a powerful reminder that wellbeing is not a luxury, it’s a foundation for thriving organisations. By participating, companies publicly commit to supporting their people and building workplaces where everyone can flourish.

As the theme “Belonging” suggests, wellbeing is strongest when employees feel connected, respected, and part of a shared purpose. The day offers a moment to reflect, reset, and recommit to creating workplaces where people truly feel they belong.
