14th September 1949 is commemorated annually as Hindi Diwas (Hindi Day) in India. On this historic day, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi written in the Devanagari script as the Official Language of the Union of India. This decision marked an important step toward strengthening national unity and promoting India’s linguistic heritage.
Hindi is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and serves as a common medium of communication for millions of people across the country. Celebrating Hindi Diwas reminds citizens of the cultural, historical, and social significance of the language. It also encourages the use of Hindi in official work, education, literature, and daily life.

Awards are also given to individuals and institutions for their contributions to the promotion and development of Hindi. These activities help inspire people, especially the younger generation, to respect and preserve the language.
Hindi Diwas is not just a celebration of a language but also a tribute to India’s rich cultural diversity and unity. It emphasises the importance of linguistic harmony while respecting all regional languages. By celebrating Hindi Diwas every year on 14th September, the nation reaffirms its commitment to promoting Hindi as a vital link connecting people from different regions of India.
