Even when I am not physically travelling, I am curious about the world around me. It is not just about the act of getting on a boat, bus, bike, plane, or train. Even in a car and other forms of travel, backpacking, riding a horse, or tuktuk. Yes, I have likely to have missed some form of transport, but you get the gist. Inspiration can come from watching a film or a documentary. For me, it is all those and reading books about a country’s history, culture, and language. Hopefully, I will get to a few of the destinations that have inspired me one day. Inspiration has also come from people who have been in my life in interesting and intriguing conversations. Travelling on trains, and that has made me want to stop off at other places on the way. Oh, I have not mentioned, I have a love of old steam engines, great rail architecture, and train travel. Started when I was young, watching the Great Western trains across the fields from my bedroom window, wondering who was on that train and where did they got on, where they were getting off. Are they at the start of their travels, or on their return journey? But also, being an Agatha Christie fan helps with this fascination with trains.
I grew up with a love for words and reading from a grandparent. So, in part I will be journeying through languages and words. Words can evolve and transform as time passes, reflecting their dynamic, living nature. I welcome any valid corrections from skilled linguists or writers if errors are found. Reader suggestions on place, language, history, and culture are always welcome. Additionally, are there any recommendations for content that people would like to see included?
